AbSorber will host a morning symposium at the upcoming TTS meeting in Vancouver. The symposium, entitled “Improving outcomes in kidney transplantation: Non-HLA antibodies and Enhanced Clinical Risk Assessment” will focus on the clinical implications of non-HLA antibodies in patients undergoing organ transplantation. Professor Ron Shapiro, Prof. of Surgery, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute, Pittsburgh, PA, will be chairing the symposium.
Since the mid 60’s in has been known that the presence of HLA antibodies are a risk factor in patients undergoing organ transplantation. However, also in patients without HLA antibodies against the donor complications related to antibodies exists. These non-HLA antibodies has previously not been possible to detect in a standardized way. XM-ONE, Absorbers’ endothelial cell crossmatch is designed to detect non-HLA antibodies and it has been shown that there is a strong correlation to post transplant complications in patients being positive in this crossmatch (Breimer et al, Transplantation, Feb 2009).
During the symposium it will be discussed how the detection of donor specific non-HLA antibodies can enhance the risk assessment in patients undergoing organ transplantation. For further information, please view the program here.
